Testimonials

“Cathy has been responsible for getting several grants from the State of Ohio to promote healthy eating…She has been instrumental in revising the School Wellness Policy by looking at key indicators and making necessary adjustments. It is very clear that health and wellness has taken on increased importance and value at Corryville Catholic School thanks almost solely to the direction, expertise and dedication of Dr. Catherine Ramstetter.”

-Shirley Gaede Speaks, former Corryville Catholic Director of Development

On May 11, 2026, the American Academy of Pediatrics published the revised-updated Policy Statement on Recess. Lead authors Dr. Bob Murray and Dr Catherine Ramstetter were joined by Dr. Daniel Woolridge and Dr. Charlene Brickman to pen the statement.

This is such an important day. When I worked at the Department of Health, Office of School and Adolescent Health, I saw first hand how that first policy statement was used in our state to protect recess. I personally whipped it out many many times over the years in work with districts. It was a seminal piece of public health literature.

This update is so beautiful. Reading it brought tears to my eyes- it is such a fierce defence of children and their rights. Thank you. I have already sent it out to our whole school. I'm so grateful for your work.

(I learned) How to improve and help the children to have a better recess. How to motivate them to feel like they are in family…. Be more available. Defeat more our own ego. That there be more communication and fellowship….To use positive words and play with the children. To motivate them so that they feel good. Give them options so that they make their own decisions.
