empty swings

In collaboration with pediatricians, I was lead author on research demonstrating the crucial role of recess in our elementary schools, which was published in the Journal of School Health in 2010. In 2013, our work led to the American Academy of Pediatrics Policy on Recess. In sum, the AAP policy not only supports recess as the child’s time, necessary as a break from the rigors of academic demands, but also advocates for recess as essential for cognitive development, physical activity and social health.
